acting with an excess of caution, i'm making all my works on ao3 viewable by 'registered users only' as a result of this post re: sudowrites ai.
the tldr is that sudowrites ai has been scraping ao3 and using that text as the dataset to train their ai. i don't like doing this, but i also don't want to be part of the dataset. hopefully this is something ao3 can push back against.

Date: 2 December 2022 08:43 pm (UTC)this is not the robot utopia i signed up for grumble grumble grumble some of the early ai / machine learning was so interesting - bots trained to come up with paint colours or recipes etc. that were clearly not-human generated when you looked at the results. the fact that techbros looked at ai and said "hey, let's shaft small creators on da and ao3 who are creating incredible stuff for little or no profit for the sheer enjoyment of creation!" is deeply annoying to me. annoying is the wrong word, but i can't think of a better one.
