Their little bit of pastoral relaxation can't last forever. They hike and fish and tell ghost stories around the fire, and too soon, Satine has to go back to Mandalore, and Cody, Rex, and Obi-Wan have to return to Coruscant. They part with soft kisses and fond words, and promises that they'll see one another again. Satine does not ask that they come to Mandalore with her; they do not ask she forsake her people. All of them are bound first and foremost to their duty. That does not preclude them from missing one another.

Satine comms to let them know when she's safely reached Sundari. They comm to let her know they've returned to the Temple.

Even once in the Temple, Obi-Wan and Cody and Rex aren't constantly in one another's presence. They lived together, but they still had missions, duties to complete. Cody soon settled into regular shifts as an instructor, teaching hand to hand to Jedi and clone younglings alike. Rex accepted more varied tasks, some times instructing on blaster safety, other times minding a creche of younglings.

When Satine commed, she often started her call: "I was just thinking about you, and wanted to share-"

They listened, and replied, sharing tales of their day to day lives. Rex had learned a new recipe, he told her. Cody had joined the choir. Obi-Wan was thinking about taking on another Padawan, a sweet natured twi'lek child who loved plants and painting and obstacle courses.

Obi-Wan, Rex, and Cody commed Satine just as often. "I was just thinking about you," they would say, and share with her how the lilies were blooming in the Room of a Thousand Fountains, and Ahsoka had passed her Knighthood trials and was going on solo missions, and the delightful pictures the class of crechelings had made during their art period with Rex.

I'll help you study [ao3]

Rex was grumbling over a datapad when Obi-Wan returned from the Council's meeting. Cody had reported in from Mandalore, where Satine had inveigled him into staying a few extra days. As Obi-wan was loath to deny either Satine or Cody anything, he wasn’t terribly upset. It helped that Rex was excellent company.

"What has you so aggravated?" Obi-Wan asked, resting a hand on Rex’s broad shoulder and brushing a kiss into his blond stubble.

"Stupid new regulations," Rex grumped. "Have to take a stupid quiz to get a stupid license to fly the stupid bloody skycars." Obi-Wan snickered, shifting to rest both his hands on Rex's back so he could gently knead the developing knots out of the firm, warm muscle beneath his washed-soft shirt. "Not funny," Rex complained. "I'm a decorated war veteran, I ought to get an exemption from this sort of bullshit. Especially since Coruscant's traffic regulations are even more convoluted than the fleet regs."

"If you want, I'll help you study," Obi-Wan promised. "I'm probably nearly due for my re-certifications in any case."

"I'd rather you keep doing that," Rex said, rolling his shoulders under Obi-Wan's hands with a groan of pleasure. Obi-Wan grinned, and ducked down to kiss the nape of Rex's neck.

"That can be arranged," Obi-Wan said, and continued his slow massage. Rex groaned, abandoning any pretense of reading his datapad. He leaned back into Obi-Wan's skilled touch and just luxuriated for a long moment. Obi-Wan dropped another light kiss against Rex's neck, and Rex reached back, blindly trying to grab at his lover.

With a laugh, Obi-Wan rounded the chair and planted himself in Rex's lap, leaning in to kiss him slow and sweet. Rex kissed back readily, shifting Obi-Wan slightly so his weight was distributed better, then settling in for a nice long session of breathless kisses. Obi-Wan hummed, happy to play along.

They both knew they couldn't sit there forever. Obi-Wan needed to see about their meal, and Rex's legs would fall asleep before too long. Until then, lips and tongues slid together, neither man attempting to arouse the other, just enjoying the intimacy of making out.

It’s two sugars, right? [ao3]

Shifting, Rex carefully extricated himself from the bed. Cody was off-planet on a mission without Obi-Wan, and Obi-Wan had asked Rex to come stay in the Temple while Cody was away. Cody had warned Rex the invitation was coming, and Rex had been happy to accept. From some of the things he’d said since Rex had arrived, Rex was pretty sure Obi-Wan had begun a campaign to get Rex to permanently move in, too.

It was a very tempting idea for Rex, to spend all his nights at home with two of his favourite people. He wasn’t sure quite yet, but he was definitely thinking about it, weighing the possibilities. At the moment, those possibilities included waking beside Obi-Wan each morning, and falling asleep beside him every night. Not bad at all, and nothing he would have dared imagine for himself before the war.

Padding into the ‘fresher, Rex took care of his morning routine. As he finished washing up, Obi-Wan shuffled in after him, bleary-eyed and still half asleep. Rex couldn’t help his fond smile, and he turned, gently pushing Obi-Wan’s mussed hair off his forehead and stealing a kiss. Obi-Wan grumbled wordlessly, not a huge fan of kissing before he’d brushed his teeth. Rex chuckled softly, and kissed Obi-Wan’s temple instead.

“I’ll put on the water,” Rex offered quietly.

“Mmmmm tea,” Obi-Wan said sleepily, and began his own washing up.

“It’s two sugars, right?” Rex asked teasingly, and Obi-Wan scowled at him in the mirror. Rex laughed, and went to put on the kettle. In one mug went a bag of strong black tea - no sugar - and in the other, granules of instant caff and quite a bit of sugar.

When Obi-Wan shuffled into the kitchen, he propped himself against Rex, leaning in to kiss Rex’s cheek and jaw. Rex shifted, pulling Obi-Wan into a proper embrace and bringing their mouths together. Obi-Wan sighed happily into the kiss, and Rex was pretty sure he’d be moving in.
