Summary:
what it says on the tin
Ahsoka bared her teeth at the other girl. These were her lessons with the Huntmother. Shaak gently tugged Ahsoka's side lek, and Ahsoka pouted at her, crossing her arms. Shaak let out a soft, trilling laugh, and Ahsoka felt the blood rush to her face in embarrassment. She huffed, turning away from both Shaak and the other girl. Shaak tugged Ahsoka's lek again. Ahsoka turned back to the Huntmother, sulking a bit but trying harder to hide her petulant unwillingness to share the Huntmother's attention. Shaak let out a slightly scolding chirp, then turned back to her lesson.
Ahsoka sighed, chin resting in her hand, as Knight Aayla demonstrated 'saber forms. The Knight was lithe and limber. Every motion flowed into the next, showcasing her flexibility. Ahsoka sighed again, eyes trailing along the curl of Knight Aayla's leather bound lekku. They were a different shade of blue from Ahsoka's lekku, spotted with a paler, brighter shade. Ahsoka tried to keep her mind on the 'saber lessons, but she couldn't stop wistfully imagining how smooth Aayla's skin would be as Ahsoka trailed her fingers over those dots and connected them, how gentle her fingers on Ahsoka's far shorter lekku.
Ahsoka bowed, keeping her eyes on the Senator from Pantora as long as possible. Senator Chuchi was fairly new to the Senate, but had caught Padmé's attention as someone who voted with their conscience for the good of their constituents and the Republic. Padmé had failed to mention just how pretty Senator Chuchi was, with powder blue skin accented with yellow tattoos. The light caught in her lavender hair and glittered off her gold and crystal headpiece, dangling prisms throwing rainbows around her. The Senator glanced over, bright eyes catching Ahsoka's gaze, and Ahsoka's cheeks flamed with heat.
Ahsoka wept furiously, face hidden in her arms as her chest heaved. It was a lie. There was no way what they said could be true. Barriss would never do such a thing, never willfully hurt another. They had to be wrong. And if they believed that Barriss could act in such a way, commit such a crime, then there was no way she could trust the Council to act in her own best interests. She gulped down breaths, steeling herself. She'd clear Barriss' name, and then they would leave, together. They could help people, even if not as Jedi.
Ahsoka felt her cheeks heat as Trace heaped praise on her for her fighting prowess. "It's not that special," Ahsoka said, still warm with the other young woman's compliments. She had never known anyone quite like Trace; Jedi tended to be idealists, but they lost their naivete young. Given all that Trace and her sister had been through, it wouldn't have been surprising for Trace to grow hard. Still, Trace got starry-eyed talking about her dreams, believing that there was something greater out there. Ahsoka couldn't help but admire that about her, especially since Trace's older sister was so pragmatic.
Ahsoka leaned against a tentpole, watching as Barriss moved from bed to bed in the field hospital, treating her patients with soft hands and kind words. After leaving the Order, they had grown apart. It seemed fated that with the war over, they found one another and were becoming close again. They'd struggled out there on their own, made bad decisions and worse ones. They'd grown up. Barriss had become more forthright and open over the years, and Ahsoka, conversely, more cautious. But Barriss had always been gentle, and it was that tenderness that had care blossoming between Ahsoka's lungs.
