Obi-Wan looks up at him with limpid blue eyes and Qui-Gon knows - he knows this is a bad idea.

Obi-Wan looks up at him with limpid blue eyes and Qui-Gon knows - he knows this is a bad idea. But the runty little tooka kitten cradled in Obi-Wan's palms is terribly small, and Obi-Wan is horrifically good at looking like a runty little tooka in need of love himself. Qui-Gon lets out a gusty sigh. This is very much not what he meant when he encouraged his Padawan to spend time in the Room of a Thousand Fountains and learn to better connect with the Living Force.

"You are solely responsible for it, if it lives in your room," Qui-Gon says sternly, as if he hasn't crumbled like a tea-soaked biscuit. "You feed it, you clean up after it. You requisition the appropriate supplies and ensure someone can mind it when we go on missions."

"I will," Obi-Wan promises, eyes glimmering, "I promise."

Qui-Gon sighs again, already knowing his friends will never let him live this down. May you have a Padawan just like you indeed, he thinks ruefully. His Master had laid the curse upon him, and while Obi-Wan is very different from him in many ways, it seems that urge to take care of pathetic life-forms is shared between them.

"Very well," Qui-Gon says, admitting defeat in the face of those tooka eyes. Obi-Wan grins triumphantly, and folds himself down into a ball with the kitten cradled close. He brings the kitten up to his chest, ducking his head to rub his nose through its pale fur and whisper about what very good care he'll take of it.

Qui-Gon smiles slightly, heart aching. Someday, his Padawan is going to make an excellent Jedi Master. He hopes Obi-Wan gets a Padawan just like him.

for the 'the force' prompt for jedi june on tumblr. yoda’s words to luke on dagobah is one of my earliest memories of star wars, and it really stuck with me. i think this is something that yoda would teach to all the young jedi he had a hand in training, how to feel the force alive and flowing in the world around them. which of course brings us to qui-gon jinn, one of the loudest proponents of listening to the living force in the here and now. i feel like they would have enjoyed just sitting in nature together, and feeling the force around them.
