Summary:
Adi listened carefully, much of her attention on the expertly crafted words being exchanged by the parties on either side of the negotiating table, the remainder focused on the Force. It would do her no good to ignore the arguments of the two sides, but it would be equally unwise to ignore the Force, when it could illuminate a prevarication or expose an omission. The debate itself was important, but only if conducted in good faith.
Gently, Adi asked questions, bringing new information to light and guiding the parties toward a solution that would benefit them both, or at least not actively harm either. It would be a compromise, so likely neither of the delegates would be entirely happy, but neither would either of them be left simmering with resentment. Sometimes, that was the best a Jedi negotiator could do, even with the grace of the Force guiding their words.
As a younger Jedi, Adi had found such negotiations tedious. There were so many ways to cause offense, so many split-second decisions that could reverberate through the lives of thousands - millions - of sentients. But as she grew older - and more patient - Adi had begun to see the careful dance of diplomacy as something like a puzzle. Never a game, but something carefully crafted that she could work her way carefully through, disarming traps and laying markers, until all the pieces fell into place and those millions were all benefited in some small way.
It was oft thankless, and never as glamourous as the holomovies would make it seem, but it was satisfying work, when done right. Few others, Adi knew, could claim to have averted war or prevented famine with only their words. The adulation could go to the Senate, so long as Adi saw results that benefited the galaxy.
