Shmi had never seen a Jedi in real life. She'd heard tales of them, but they seemed as mythical as the wish-granting spirits of the desert sands. That didn't keep her from cataloguing the tall ootmian who trailed in after Anakin just before the storm. Neutral-toned tunics could mean Jedi. It could also mean a well-off moisture farmer or a poor ootmian. But beneath the ootmian's poncho was a gleaming length of metal, unassuming at first glance. Shmi felt her heart soar in recognition. All the stories agreed: There was no surer way to identify a Jedi than their blade.
