day 26: co-parenting

on ao3

Padmé smiled, watching Obi-Wan chase Luke and Leia through the gardens. He caught Leia, who shrieked as she was lifted, little legs flailing. Leia laughed wildly as she was tossed into the air, then caught securely in Obi-Wan's arms. When Padmé became pregnant, she'd never quite managed to imagine Anakin as a father. Now, she couldn't imagine anyone but Obi-Wan in the role. He was strict when necessary but indulgent whenever possible. The children adored him. Soon she'd have to decide whether the children would become Jedi, but she was comfortable with the idea knowing that Obi-Wan would be there.

day 27: regret

on ao3

Across the room, Obi-Wan tosses his head, laughing. The light catches in his hair and turns the strands to brilliant copper and gold. There's a broad, honest smile on his face as he talks to Bail. Padmé's chest tightens with loss. It's been years since Obi-Wan laughed like that for her. When she'd first come to Coruscant as a newly selected Senator, she'd felt something between them. But Obi-Wan was a Jedi first, and always would be. Padmé had chafed at feeling second-best, and stopped inviting Obi-Wan over long before she fell into, then precipitously out of love with Anakin.
