some feelings on the mandalorian s02e03

more feelings than fully formed thoughts, but the more gifsets of the mandalorian s02e03 i see, the more i really don't like that they seem to be going with gendered helmets for the mandalorians. more under a cut because i ended up venting longer than anticipated, oops?

bo-katan in the night owls helmet is cool, that's her helmet, it’s been associated with her since the character was introduced, that’s just good continuity. but why is the (assumed based on presentation, but we don’t have much else to go on here) male mando with bo-katan wearing a t-slit helmet when both bo-katan and the (assumed) female mando are wearing helmets with the night owls style eye opening? if that type of eye opening is associated with the night owls and therefore bo-katan’s faction, wouldn’t it make more sense to give him the same night owls style eye opening? (bo-katan and the other woman also have much more streamlined, lightweight looking armour but that’s a different but related post)

in the covert, the armourer, who has a female body actor and is therefore probably assumed female since this is disney, has a helmet with similar shaped eye openings to bo-katan, even though we now know that the covert mandos are really far outliers. so it’s clearly not anything to do with night owls affiliation - the armourer doesn’t wear anything else that would link back to the night owls. i have tried to find more images of the other covert mandos from season one, and it’s pretty difficult to see because the lighting is so dim, but it looks like everyone else is in t-slit helmets? maybe that means there are non-male mandos wearing the t-slit helmet (and bulkier armour) in that scene? but i can’t tell, because none of them are speaking roles.

like, i'm all for customization and differentiation in the armour, but all the women have to wear helmets with curvy eyes? none of them get the t-slit helmet we’ve always associated with mandalorians? we’re really getting sexy lady’s helmets and just regular dude helmets now? i know we have a limited sample size here, but i’m uh - not a fan.
